Prayer Rules!

I find myself really hesitant to post this one, partly because it’s so deeply personal, partly because I mention that I’m lazy and terrible at praying enough times that it may actually reveal that I take some perverse pride in that fact, partly because there are so many things I don’t say in the video that I usually do when I talk about the rule of prayer (like that repeated prayer is much like repeated refrains in a hymn, or that there’s a huge experiential difference between the creativity required in spontaneous prayer and the adoration that extended meditation on a well-known and oft-repeated prayer makes possible), and partly because it’s not really the advertised “storytime” that I call it at the outset so much as a superficial attempt to share just a bit of the powerful and personal experience of communion with God that a rule of prayer can provide. But I’ve decided to offer it here anyway, in case it’s helpful. Maybe it will at least help my humility to have a bit of my pride in being lazy exposed…
