Paid Content Experiment

What do you do with a disappointing episode?

Those few here who have actually read through most of my Substack will know that my intent is to make all the significant content I post free to all, but that I’m experimenting with non-essential “bonus” content for paid subscribers, mostly to give the very few who are able and willing to support what I’m doing here some little added incentive to do so. So far that hasn’t been much—my favourite bit of bonus content is probably my video walkthrough of my TRS-80 Color Computer BASIC “PowerPoint” presentation program.

So, given that I just filmed and edited my most-anticipated episode (that is, most-anticipated by me) and then, when I watched it, found that I was disappointed in it—not so much in the content of it, but in my presentation of the content—I decided to put up this version of the video as a sort of “blooper reel” or “early access” first draft for any paying subscribers to watch… and maybe, if they like, give me some feedback on it. Am I on the right track? How can I present my content better? I have some thoughts on the subject, which hopefully will make the final version significantly better (mostly that I’m repeating myself and circling and rambling too much), but I don’t actually have time to reshoot and/or re-edit that final version right now, as Holy Week is upon me.

So here, just before Holy Week, is that first draft, as a special bonus for anyone who wants to or has thrown some money my way. It’s probably not worth it, and, God willing, I’ll be redoing it and posting the same content in a better version sometime after Pascha, but, given my intent with regards to paid/free content here, that’s kind of the point. :)

And, following the same principles, I’ve set the “free preview” portion of the video to show one of my favourite (and not too rambling) bits of the episode. Enjoy!
